This past Sunday at Suede restaurant located on 5610 Clarendon Road, Brooklyn’s own Kira Nacole brought her visions to life in a collection she called “KWEN, The Unequivocal Beauty” (Kwen pronounced Queen) And if it’s one thing that I know for sure, it’s that MELANIN was definitely a factor!!!! The selection of models which was left up to her gal pals, Marsha and Jessica, were the epitome of beauty, they were so so stunning!! Left me girl crushing for a few seconds..
As far as the collection goes, there was something for everyone, no matter what your taste or style was! There were prints, feathers, her signature sunflower skirt, and my personal fave, the pants. I love a good pant!! Some of the pieces had matching tops and bottoms, giving you the option to either wear them together or as separates. I kind of felt like I was in a scene from the movie “Coming To America” with how regal the clothing was and the confidence in which the models walked with, the only thing missing were the animals.
The overall look wouldn’t have been complete though if it weren’t for the MUA’s, Kerry, Ace, & Teneal, great job ladies, those natural looking faces and those colorful pouts were perfection!! Oh and we can’t forget the hairstylist Talibah who came with an assistant. They got those top buns in order!! Two snaps!!
The collection was breathtaking, but I think the most important part of the show were the words that Ms. Kira Nacole left us with,
“The collection was inspired by the friendships that I’ve made in the last year, I realized that individually as women, we are very powerful, but when we work together on a certain project, it’s much more powerful, more energetic, and I realize each piece individually as separates embody that same type of powerful nature, but also collectively it’s… KIRA NACOLE. It’s everything I envisioned it to be.”
While Kira thought she was only putting on a fashion show, her and her team did so much more. We all know that in his day and age, society paints a picture that it is impossible for women of color to get along, much less work together. Kira shut that down early!! Her and her girls symbolized hope, strength, unity, togetherness, sisterhood, teamwork, and most importantly SUPPORT!! There was a radiation of light, positivity, and love, and I could see why she’d want to create a collection that exemplified just that.
Thank you Kira for your contribution to fashion and your ode to sisterhood!!
